It’s July – 2021. We’re seeing a light at the end of this pandemic, it’s a glimmer, but it’s there! Other variants aside, our infection rate is going down, and I feel like there is hope as more and more people are getting vaccinated in the US.
For me, that means I get to see my family for the first time in over a year and a half, and I couldn’t be more excited!
I’m also growing my business and making some shifts and tweaks here and there. It’s all very exciting!
WATCH THIS SPACE FOR A NEW WEBSITE COMING SOOOON!
And while I don’t blog much, I do want to start to get more in the habit of it. Not because I’m also a digital marketer and “content is king”, “you have to optimize for those long-tail keywords”, “you need content to stay on top of the SERP”, blah, blah, blah. While, YES that is all true, I also want to use my blog as a space to reflect, share my knowledge, and honestly, just kind of brain dump into the world. You’re welcome.
If you’ve read this far, well done and I do hope you’ll join me on this ride called life!
Other fun July things:
My friend Elizabeth of Yellow Dog Consulting does these super fun Pop Culture Round-Ups every month and I so look forward to them! I’m going to take a page from the “Book of Elizabeth” (™ pending), and share my round-up this month.
What we’re watching: LOKI – Oh my goodness, it’s SO GOOD! A very well-done extension of the Marvel Universe and Tom Hiddleston is absolutely fantastic. I mean, Owen Wilson is now officially a Marvel character and I couldn’t be happier about it.
We’re also very excited for Season 2 of Ted Lasso coming out later this month. Ted Lasso has to be one of the best shows of all time. So well written and amazingly funny and heartwarming. It just gives all of the feels!
On the watching note, we moved our one and only TV to our bedroom. I’m not a big fan of having a TV in our bedroom, however, it has made us make better use of our time in the evenings. Our office no longer shares the space with a TV and it feels less distracting already. We’re also not eating in front of it anymore and we’re getting to bed earlier. It’s an experiment for sure, but so far, working really well for us!
What I’m reading: I’m in a book club for the first time in my life and have been reading books I would have never otherwise chosen, which has been a joy! I also have a goal of reading 12 books this year. It’s not a lot, but it’s about 10 more than last year, so it’s an improvement for me! This month we’re reading “The Lemon Tree” by Sandy Tolan. It’s a true story about the relationship between two families, one Arab, one Jewish, in the tumultuous Israel and Palestine. The history of the last 100+ years is incredible to learn and especially timely right now. It’s heavy but incredibly important.
What I’m creating: I’m loving urban sketching and am trying to sketch and paint outside and on-site more often. But still have been mostly relying on photos.
I’ve also been experimenting with more line art styles and animations in the Procreate app! I just LOVE this style and am taking Skillshare classes from Liz Kohler Brown. If you’re at all interested in line art or flat lay type design, I can highly recommend her classes!
I want to start a passion project – something to push myself a bit more. I’m not sure what that will look like yet, but I’m starting to toy with some ideas. Then I just need to pick a start date and get cracking!
Whew! I hope you are all finding those pockets of creative time for yourselves, whatever that looks like for you! Enjoy the summer and stay tuned for more fun stuffs from this space!
I’m also going to be putting together some tutorials, so if you ever see anything I’m putting out there you’d like to learn, let me know!
